SuperSport United have secured the services of former Orlando Pirates defender Lucas Thwala this week to beef up their squad for the new season.

Before joining Matsatsantsa, Thwala was on loan at Platinum Stars and he reunites with a former teammate at Orlando Pirates in Innocent Mdledle.

The no nonsense 2010 FIFA World Cup Bafana Bafana member came through the ranks of Pirates and was promoted into the first team in 2003.

Thwala has trained with Matsatsantsa for a few weeks and formed part of the squad that won the annual Mopani Municipality Mayor’s Charity Cup in Limpopo last weekend.

“It feels great to be part of the team that likes winning titles. I’m looking forward to add value in the team and I’m sure together we will challenge for titles in the upcoming season,” said the ex-Prates defender.

The Mpumalanga-born player will travel with the team to Polokwane this weekend for their crucial MTN8 quarterfinal match against Free State Stars on Saturday afternoon (kick off at 15H00).

“We have a team of quality players and our team looks good and strong. We will give opponents a hard time I can tell you that,” concluded Thwala.
